5 Myths Surrounding Psychic Readings

As with most topics that aren’t fully understood, there are a lot of myths that surround psychic readings. In some cases, this can draw interested people to psychics but in other cases, it can make people hesitant to obtain readings. By investigating and dispelling those myths in an attempt to understand only truth about psychic readings, individuals can make more informed and educated decisions about them.

Myth #1: All Psychics are Scammers

fake psychicBeing skeptical is healthy, as it can keep individuals from being taken advantage of. However, there are some skeptics who believe all psychics are scammers. This couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, most psychics are genuinely talented and compassionate, and simply want to help others. Because of the few occurrences of opportunists who prey on vulnerable people, psychics have taken a bad rap.

Even those who are most helpful, genuine, caring and compassionate are accused of being scammers and it’s just not true. One of the things a person can do before obtaining a psychic reading is to learn the signs of a scam so they can protect themselves.

Myth #2: Psychics Can Make Someone Fall in Love

love spellsAnother common myth is that psychics can make people fall in love with other people. Along this same line is the myth that psychics can give you the winning lottery numbers, etc. It simply doesn’t work that way. First and foremost, a psychic is simply a channel used by spirit, spirit guides, or the creator to deliver messages.

They are not the original source of the information, so only what that original source wants to come through will come through. In addition, making one person fall in love with another person would be taking away their free will, which is something no self-respecting psychic would ever attempt, even if it were possible. If this is the reason you’re considering visiting a psychic, it’s important to understand that it’s just not going to work.

Myth #3: Psychics are Gypsies with Crystal Balls

How to Use a Crystal BallThis is such a stereotypical view of psychics but it is a very common one. People have actually felt as though their psychic wasn’t genuine because she wasn’t an ugly old woman with a crystal ball. The truth is that a psychic is a normal person. He or she will dress the same as you, live life the same as you, etc. However, when they go to work, they perform readings. You’d be surprised to know how many people are psychic and what sort of people they are.

Your pharmacist could be psychic, your hair stylist, your mail man…even you could have latent psychic abilities. Many people believe that all individuals are psychic but that most people simply don’t know how to access those abilities. Rather than judging a psychic based on his or her physical appearance, allow the psychic to perform a reading and judge by the way you feel in your heart about the information you’ve been given.

Myth #4: Psychics Have the Ability to Read Your Mind

psychic-readerMost psychics have probably gotten that look when revealing that they have psychic abilities; you know, that skeptical, “prove it!” look. They’ve also probably heard, “Oh, you’re psychic? What am I thinking right now?” It’s a common reaction that people have when hearing that someone has psychic abilities, but it just doesn’t work that way. Again, the information psychics receive for a particular person typically come from another source – the universe, spirit guides, those who have crossed over, etc.

The psychic is the tool of those sources; like a radio, they deliver the information. Most spirit guides and spirits aren’t concerned with what a person is thinking or how many fingers they are holding behind their backs. They are concerned with passing along uplifting, useful information that a person needs to hear.

Myth #5: Psychics Perform Curses or Remove Curses

cursesThis is another common myth and it’s absolutely untrue. Psychics don’t have the power to curse another person and even if they did, they wouldn’t dream of it. They also cannot “remove curses,” and a lot of the time if a person thinks they have a curse on them, it’s just untrue. They might be dealing with negative energy or a spiritual issue causing them to feel cursed.

A psychic can, however, help with that type of issue. It’s a warning sign if a psychic tells you they need to remove a curse, because often they will ask for a large deposit or “donation” in order to remove that curse. If a psychic tells you this, get as far away from them as you can because they are not actually psychic but preying upon your vulnerability.

By understanding these myths and understanding that they’re not true, you can get a better feel for what a psychic actually is and what they do. This will provide you with the information you need to determine whether a psychic reading would be beneficial to you or not.
